Tetrahydrofuran (THF) is a cyclic ether compound that existsas a clear, colorless liquid with a faint ether-like odor. It is produced bythe dehydration of 1,4-butanediol or by the catalytic hydrogenation of maleicanhydride. THF is a versatile solvent and chemical intermediate used in variousindustries.

The primary application of Tetrahydrofuran is as a solventin chemical synthesis, polymer processing, and pharmaceutical formulations. THFis valued for its high solvency power and ability to dissolve a wide range ofpolar and non-polar compounds. It is commonly used in Grignard reactions,organometallic chemistry, and as a reaction medium for polymerizationprocesses.
