Tertiary Butanol (Tert-Butanol or TBA) is a branched-chainalcohol that exists as a colorless liquid with a camphor-like odor. It isderived from isobutylene through hydration or from the oxidation of isobutane.Tert-Butanol is a versatile chemical compound used in various industrialapplications.

The primary application of Tertiary Butanol is as a solventand intermediate in organic synthesis. It is widely used as a solvent forresins, coatings, and specialty chemicals due to its high solvency power andlow volatility. Tert-Butanol is also employed in the production of flavors,fragrances, and pharmaceuticals as a chemical intermediate.

In addition to its role as a solvent, Tertiary Butanol isused in the manufacture of tert-butyl esters, which are used as additives ingasoline to enhance octane ratings and reduce engine knocking.
